Women’s health doesn’t stop at physical symptoms.

A diagnosis, ongoing symptoms a changing body, mind and life, can impact every part of life.

Pain. Fatigue. Sleep. Mood. Anxiety. Relationships. Sex and intimacy. Work. Parenting. Confidence. Identity.

The uncertainty of not knowing how you will feel tomorrow.

Her Alliance specialises in therapy for the psychological and everyday impact of women’s health.

Megan | Founder, Her Alliance

Smiling woman in white coat reading at a desk.

Megan is an ACA registered counsellor specialising in women’s health, with more than 15 years of experience across health and community settings.

Megan’s professional background spans nursing, women’s health, counselling and psychology. Working across both physical and psychological health has shaped her particular clinical interest in what happens when women’s health conditions, hormonal and life-stage changes begin to affect much more than health alone: mood, relationships, work, confidence, identity and everyday life.

Megan understands that what brings a woman to therapy may not sit neatly within one box. You may be managing symptoms, treatment or changes in your health while still working, caring for others and getting on with life, or you may simply know that you don’t feel quite like yourself anymore.

Therapy provides a place to make sense of what is happening, understand what may be contributing to it and work towards practical change.

Megan’s approach is evidence-informed, practical and collaborative. She draws on psychological and therapeutic frameworks according to the individual woman her circumstances and goals, because good therapy should fit the person, not expect the person to fit the therapy.

AN INTEGRATED APPROACH

Therapy at Her Alliance is informed by a biopsychosocial approach, recognising that psychological wellbeing can be influenced by the interaction between physical health, thoughts and emotions, relationships, life circumstances and the wider social context in which women live.

Megan works from a person-centred, gender-responsive and strengths-based perspective with therapy tailored to the individual, her circumstances and therapeutic goals rather than a single therapeutic model.

Depending on a woman’s needs and goals, therapy may draw on evidence-informed approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) and solution-focused approaches, alongside psychoeducation and practical skills-based work.

The focus is not simply on reducing symptoms, but on building understanding, psychological flexibility and practical strategies that can translate into everyday life.

THERAPEUTIC FOCUS & OUTCOMES

Develop greater awareness of emotional responses and learn strategies to manage overwhelm, reactivity and distress while building psychological flexibility.

Explore the psychological and everyday impact of health conditions, persistent symptoms, hormonal change or medical treatment. Therapy can help with adjustment, uncertainty, changes in identity and functioning, and developing strategies for living with the broader impact of your health.

Identify thought patterns, behavioural cycles and relational patterns that may be contributing to distress, and develop more effective ways of responding.

Develop a clearer understanding of the factors influencing your thoughts, emotions and responses, while clarifying personal values and strengthening confidence in decision-making.

Explore the psychological impact of competing responsibilities, mental load and patterns such as over-functioning, difficulty setting boundaries or prioritising the needs of others, and develop more sustainable ways of managing demands.

Develop strategies to manage anxiety, low mood, health-related distress and emotional exhaustion, with a focus on reducing their impact on everyday functioning.

Develop practical skills in communication, boundaries, coping and responding to challenging situations, with strategies that can be applied beyond the therapy room.

ATTENDING HER ALLIANCE

Appointments are 60 minutes and are available in person at Her Alliance in Springfield Lakes, or online via telehealth.

Weekday and selected after-hours appointments are available.

Fee: $100 per 60-minute appointment.

Counselling appointments are not eligible for Medicare rebates at this time and a Mental Health Treatment Plan is not required.

Clients may self-refer or be referred by a health professional.

Your first appointment is an opportunity to get to know each other and begin to understand what has brought you to therapy.

We’ll talk about what has been happening for you, what is having the greatest impact and any relevant health or personal history. You don’t need to have everything worked out or know exactly what you want to say before you arrive and there is no expectation to tell your whole story in the first session.

You can share what feels comfortable, ask questions and take your time. Together, we’ll begin to identify what you would like to work towards and what therapy might look like for you.

Therapy may be helpful when changes in your mood, anxiety, stress or emotional wellbeing are beginning to affect your daily life, relationships, work or ability to cope.

For some women, psychological distress may also occur alongside physical health concerns, persistent symptoms or hormonal change. Conditions such as endometriosis, PMDD and PMOS, experiences of illness or treatment, and transitions such as perimenopause can affect sleep, mood, concentration, relationships, identity and everyday functioning.

You do not need to have a mental health diagnosis or wait until things become unmanageable to seek therapy. Her Alliance works with women to understand what is contributing to their experience and develop appropriate psychological and practical strategies.

There is no specific preparation required before your first appointment.

It can be helpful to consider what has brought you to therapy, what is currently having the greatest impact and what you would like to be different. If your concerns relate to your health, you may also wish to bring relevant information about your diagnosis, symptoms, medications or current healthcare.

Your first session provides time to discuss your concerns, relevant history and what you would like to work towards in therapy.

In person appointments are held in a private, purpose-designed space in Springfield Lakes. Intentionally created to feel calm, comfortable and removed from the traditional clinical setting, with thoughtfully designed spaces to arrive, settle in and attend therapy without the feel of a busy practice or waiting room.

Small details are part of the experience, from comfortable furnishings and adjustable lighting to refreshments, blankets and other comforts allowing you to make the space your own during your appointment.

On-site parking is available.
